As the Johnny Mercer song says:

“You’ve got to accentuate the positive,
Eliminate the negative,
And latch on to the affirmative,
Don’t mess with mister in-between.”

It is time for us to get unstuck in the reality of what is being reported in the media. Very few stories are uplifting. Most of the news tells us our leaders and heroes are flawed. The volume of these reports makes it difficult to be optimistic, have a positive attitude, and achieve any degree of success.

We have to stop being drawn into the ‘reality shows’ that pepper our media. These media reports, for me, create a bigger problem. We are starting to spend more time investigating in the past than creating a new future.

We have to spread joy, reduce gloom, and enjoy every day to the fullest. It’s time to take charge of yourself and create independence in all of its forms.

Today I am going to recommit to find the rainbows in the clouds, donate more time to preventing animal cruelty, offer free advice to those that can’t afford it and spend less time watching, listening or reading about negative events. I will find time to play with my dogs, watch the leaves turn, enjoy the laughter of children playing and “stop the stupid stuff.” I am going to find more ‘me’ time so I can share positive energy with those around me. It’s time to focus forward. I can’t change the past, but I can impact my future.

And lastly, I’m going to get this song stuck in your head. Enjoy!
